Tooth Extraction
Dental extraction is the removal of the entire tooth from its socket. Performed for a variety of reasons, Dr. Borchers will take x-rays and/or photographs during initial consultation to see if a dental extraction is the appropriate course of action. The most common reasons for a tooth extraction include:
Excessive decay or damage
Impacted wisdom teeth
Need to create space for patients getting braces
What to expect
A dental extraction usually takes only one visit to complete. During surgery, the patient will be administered local anesthesia or general anesthesia to numb the affected area. The nature of tooth extraction will depend on the patient's situation. Once tooth is removed, patient may experience some swelling and discomfort, but will subside within a couple of days. Patient will receive post-extraction instructions from doctor to ensure a smooth and healthy process.
