CEREC

Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic, or CEREC, is a dental restoration product that uses computer-assisted technology, including 3D photography, to allow Dr. Borchers and his staff to create customized tooth-colored ceramic materials to restore teeth in a single visit, rather than the traditional method through multiple appointments. With the latest advances in the CEREC technology, the materials are chemically bonded to your tooth, so the dentist can save as much healthy tooth tissue as possible while providing you with a dental restoration that strengthens your tooth. Crowns, veneers, onlays and inlays can be prepared as well.

What to expect

During a CEREC restoration procedure, the doctor will prepare the tooth for restoration by removing decayed tooth tissue. Next, an impression of the tooth will be made using a tasteless powder, rather than the standard "goop", and then a special camera will be used to take a digital photo of the tooth. The photo will be shown in 3D on a computer screen to allow Dr. Borchers to design the tooth's restoration. Once this step is complete, the design data is sent to a separate milling unit. Then, a ceramic block that matches the color of the tooth is chosen to ensure the restoration will be virtually invisible. After 10-20 minutes, the full crown, onlay, overlay or veneer is finished and ready to be bonded to the tooth. Dr. Borchers will place restoration in patient's mouth to ensure it fits perfectly. Finally, the restoration will be polished and bonded to the prepared tooth.

We will be happy to discuss the benefits of using CEREC for your next procedure. Contact our office in the Texas Hill Country at (830) 257-2331 to schedule an appointment in our Kerrville office.
